Article on Lipstick Color Labeling

Color Lab’s new article, “Categorization and Labeling of Red Variations in Lip Makeup,” has been published in Color Research & Application as an open-access paper. As part of Dr. Boram Kim (김보람)’s Ph.D. research, the study combines spectrophotometric measurements with visual assessments to explore the relationship between physical color data and human color perception in the context of lip cosmetics.

The study reveals that when a reddish pigment is used in lipstick, users tend to apply more nuanced perceptual judgments. Based on the data, Dr. Kim developed a color labeling system tailored for lip products and demonstrated its practical use in industry. This research addresses a real-world problem and offers a meaningful solution.

The paper also showcases successful industry–academia collaboration, with Ms. Moonha Kim (김문하) from the Digital Division of AMOREPACIFIC Corp. (아모레퍼시픽) joining as a co-author.
