Exploring Lighting Experience in Product Design


Byeongjin Kim (김병진), a Ph.D. candidate at Color Lab, has published a paper titled “User Experience Factors of Home Appliance Lighting (가전제품의 조명이 형성하는 사용자 경험 요인)” in Archives of Design Research (AoDR), Vol. 38, No. 2, pp. 253–267. As part of his ongoing doctoral dissertation, the study explores how lighting quality influences user perception of product design in home appliances. Through empirical analysis, three key factors were identified: lighting quality, functional utility, and emotional appeal. These factors provide a structured framework for both developing and evaluating the design quality and user experience of in-product lighting.
