The Lighting Cube of Heesu (김희수), a Master Graduate of Color Lab is published in a Archives of Design Research (디자인학연구). As a part of Heesu’s Master Thesis, the article presents how lighting designers examine the aethetic interaction of reflected color and light source using a physical module. Based on Heesu’s Master’s thesis, the paper introduces a simple tool for studying how light color and product color work together. The Lighting Cube is a small physical module that lets designers test this interaction directly, instead of relying on designers’ subjective or intuitive judgments.
The cube can quickly simulate products like home appliances — users just cut and fold paper to wrap it in different CMF(color, material, and finishing). Small as it is, the cube can model many real design cases where lighting serves both function and aesthetics.
