Celebrating Amina’s Best Presentation Award!

We proudly celebrate Amina Rakhimzhanova’s (아미나 라힘자노바) achievement, in which her study on skin tone perception based on object-derived color names received the Best Presentation Award at the 2026 Korean Society of Color Studies academic conference (2026년도 한국색채학회 가을학술대회). Her research investigates how commonly used skin tone descriptors, such as Porcelain, Ivory, Peach, Golden, and Olive, correspond to distinct perceptual regions in color space, highlighting the relationship between color terms and human color perception.

Motivated by the widespread use of descriptive color names in the beauty industry, Amina conducted a color categorization experiment with 41 participants using 138 skin tone samples from the Pantone SkinTone Guide. By analyzing perceptual characteristics such as lightness, chroma, and hue, the study visualizes the color regions associated with 13 commonly used skin tone names and explores similarities and differences between them. The findings offer valuable insights into how consumers perceive and communicate skin tones, contributing to more intuitive and consistent color communication in cosmetics and design. Congratulations to Amina on this wonderful achievement!
